The triumphal arch for St. Michael’s Abbey for the ceremonial entry into Antwerp of the Grand Duke and Duchess Albrecht and Isabella in 1599

Drawing of a three-tier triumphal arch. The lower tier is the tallest; it is divided into three parts by columns: a tall central gate lets through a horse-drawn carriage; to the left and right is a lower way through, but the right-hand one is enclosed and a soldier is keeping guard. The lower tier is enclosed by an architrave. There are three figurative depictions on the middle tier: in the centre is a king on his throne, with a noble lady and gentleman standing at the front to the left and right, and some large balls on the ground around the throne; on the left is a depiction of a woman holding a sword and on the right, an angel with putto. The upper tier is formed by a central fronton and two lower segmental frontons, on which there are statues.
