Christ is hanging on the cross; from the wounds in His side, blood is flowing, which is caught in a chalice by an angel; Mary Magdalene is clasping the foot of the cross; two other women are standing in the foreground right, who are expressing their grief through their postures. The drawing is enclosed at the top by a round arch, on which a drape hangs down on the right. The scene is situated on a small platform with three steps leading up to it. In the foreground left, two soldiers are sitting playing dice for Christ’s robe; one soldier is holding a candle.
