Design for a baldachin

Inventory number: CVH 1025 recto
Bollaert & Moortgat

A tall base ending in two allegorical female figures of Love (a woman suckling two children) and Hope (a woman with an anchor), which has ears of corn and a bunch of grapes to left and right, is spanned by a baldachin, on which there is a crown and a globe; cherubs’ heads are depicted in the baldachin and under the crown. In the centre of this canopy, against a golden aureole and resting on a carpet of clouds with two putti, is a depiction of the monstrance, in the form of a carrying case, with a lamb lying on a cross on the lid.
