Design for an altar with Louis XIV motifs

Inventory number: CVH 286
Bollaert & Moortgat

Design: an altar with a large niche in the middle (for putting a statue in) with, above it, a parapet with some volutes which prop up a crown. Two winged angels kneel at the ends of the altar, gazing into the niche. On the altar is a tabernacle. Typical Louis XIV motifs (e.g. the "lambrequins") are intermingled with ornamentation, which heralds the Rococo.
